Drunk rant aside, what I meant was: if, by bringing the first class to the present of Earth 616, Beast hasn’t created a new (doomed) pocket universe, then: the first class comes by the knowledge of everything leading up to now. Which is to say: Inferno, X-Tinction Agenda, X-Cutioner’s Song, Vulcan the lost Summers, Onslaught, Civil War, M-Day, Decimation, Jeans Many Deaths, Hope and Cable, etc. To maintain 616 integrity, the first class must return to the 60’s with this knowledge (and, we must assume, Jean’s telepathy is awakened by this jaunt into the future), where (as Beast has assured us) Charles will erase their memories. Being selfish, Charles would go over their memories as he erases them. This means that Charles has FOREKNOWLEDGE of everything that happens. Being a member of the old school (and an eventual member of the Illuminati), Charles knows not to tamper with future events. Which is to say: Charles trains Scott to BE A FAILURE; he emotionally manipulates Scott into being who he is today. Scott makes all of his horrible choices (and there are many even before AvX and the Phoenix Five) because Charles knows he has to. This further ties into New Avengers, in which he entrusts Hank to the knowledge of the Illuminati; Hank, therefore, may have brought the first class to the present not just for young, idealistic Scott to confront stupid, zealot Scott but because he knows he has to do so. This is the only way that Charles could ensure that the Decimation can be fixed; Scott eventually sends Cable into the future, and Cable becomes Mutant Messiah #1. Hope is born, Cable takes her, she becomes Mutant Messiah #2. Knowing that Wanda is a key figure, Charles reforms her even though she almost eradicates mutant kind, knowing that eventually she (along with Hope) saves the species. Charles manipulates everything (including his own death) to ensure the survival of mutants.
